Next week we have out annual Italian Day Open held at Glenwoodie Golf Course. Hopefully we all have our guests and foursomes in order.

We also welcome any prize donations for raffles; such as gift certificates, sports tickets, any golf related items,etc. We will acknowledge you at the event for your kindness and generosity. Please contact Rich Schroeder to donate.

 

ITALIAN DAY TICKETS ARE ALMOST SOLD OUT! Only 10 tickets left (more can be added). Contact Rich Schroeder @ 708.878.3913 (text is best). Also, adding a Raffle to this year's event besides the door prizes. We had great weather and a challenging day at George W. Dunne Golf Course this week. Not sure about you but I purged my golf bag of most of the extra balls in it. We play there again in two weeks and this time I’m going to bring extra balls and a lot of Corona beer. Why you ask? We spent plenty of time in the sand.

Fun fact about George Dunne, it is a Forest Preserve District course. In total there are 66 sand traps situated near fairways and green side, and water comes into play on 11 holes. The landing zones are wide with plenty of room off the tee, but fairways and greens are protected well by large intricately shaped bunkers.

Useless fun facts (Because I don’t know what to write about this week.)

 

Bananas are berries, but strawberries aren’t:

Botanically speaking, a banana is considered a berry, while a strawberry is not.

 

A group of flamingos is called a "flamboyance": It makes sense, considering how colorful and elegant they are!

 

Wombat poop is cube-shaped: This unusual shape prevents the poop from rolling away, which is helpful for marking territory.

 

The inventor of the Pringles can is now buried in one: Fred Baur, the creator of the Pringles can, had his ashes buried in one after he passed away.

 

A jiffy is a real unit of time: It’s an actual measurement, usually referring to 1/100th of a second.

 

Cows have best friends: Research has shown that cows have social bonds and become stressed when they are separated from their best friends.

 

Honey never spoils: Archaeologists have found pots of honey in ancient Egyptian tombs that are over 3,000 years old and still perfectly edible.

 

Scotland’s national animal is the unicorn: This mythical creature has been a symbol of Scotland for centuries.

 

There’s a world record for the most world records: Ashrita (Frank's Uncle????)  Furman holds the record for holding the most world records.

 

Octopuses (Octopi) have three hearts: Two pump blood to the gills, while one pumps it to the rest of the body.

GOLF NEWS

Fellow BTC Golfers:

Next week on Tuesday 8/20, is the annual Builders Tee Club Italian Day outing at Glenwoodie Golf Course (10 AM shotgun). I have a few (9) slots open, if you want to play (less than 4 players per group will be filled-in). I can hold your ticket at WILL CALL.  I must commit the number of players to the golf course by this Friday 8/16, so contact me today (email or fax preferred). Starting holes and groupings will be published to Builderstee.com. The dinner will go on, no matter what happens with the weather.  Dinner will be served by ~3:30, unless golf is delayed.  Text message to members will be sent if necessary.

 

Donations of raffle prizes can go to either Bob or Rich. Please let me know ahead of time so we can   recognize you in that day's flier.

Finally I need 2 volunteers to work the Raffle, between the finish of golf and just before dinner is served.  This time slot does not interfere with either golf or dinner.

1-work the Beggars food table for distribution of the prepared Pepper & Egg sandwiches and pizza slices later (at the turn).  No cooking is involved.

2-sell split-the-pot tickets and assist with scoring & raffle prizes at dinner.

Each non-participating volunteer receives a free dinner for helping out. Please reply by phone or email if you want to volunteer (hours are 8:30-5 or 9:30 until 7).  Pre-golf volunteers kindly be at the course by 8:30 am.  On-course volunteers kindly be at the course by 9:30.  Dinner-time volunteers kindly be at the clubhouse by 3:00.
